Strategic Event Planning
‘The plan is, there is no plan’
So how can everything run like clockwork and the unexpected become the expected? Strategic Event Planning is critical to a safe, successful challenge event.
Your event will be defined and specific goals and outcomes agreed with you at the start. To help you at the very beginning, here are some questions that you might want to ask yourself:
Why do you want to host your event or achieve your dream?
What specifically do you want to accomplish?
Who are you doing this for?
What kind of event is this?
Is there anything that I’m forgetting?
What is your budget and how will you fund this?
Who can help you get this all together? – Adventure Challenge Solutions
And we can help you get this all together because you don’t want to (literally!) be up the creek without a paddle. You want to know that there’s a spare one in the raft…and that you didn’t even need to think about it. You want the professionals to handle everything.
We pride ourselves on being one step ahead of the game, understanding all the eventualities surrounding your event. Whether that’s calling Mountain Rescue to let them know that we’re out there (just in case), or the RAF to get you on and off the Falkland Islands before dinner.
Global Challenge Logistics
We know that you’ve been dreaming BIG, and that you want to change your dream into a reality. Dreams shouldn’t be messed up though should they? It will be reassuring for you to know that we’ve actually been doing BIG for a long time.
We know that it would probably throw most people into a state of chaos if they missed their critical connection to Guatemala. We’ve been there before so we know who to call (he’s called Pablo). Yes, in Guatemala, or Windhoek for that matter (and he’s called Walter). Yes, really.
We recce, we understand, we don’t leave anything to chance. We plan, we research, we investigate – before you get on the plane, step onto the canoe, or the horse, or the mountain….. And we tell you about it – if you want to know. Otherwise, it all just happens and the dream turns into reality.
Expedition and Adventure Preparation and Support
Understanding your expedition or adventure goals and outcomes is key to expedition and adventure preparation and support.
If your challenge is physically demanding, then you will need to prepare your body for the adventure. If you’ve never left your armchair (apart from in your head…) how can you expect your body to live in a desert or on a mountain?
Similarly you need the right equipment to get you up said mountain. But how do you know what the equipment is? We’ll know, but only if we know your challenge.
During your expedition or adventure, you can be sure that we’ll be right there with you, and so will our medics and rescue teams.
High Performance Fitness
Your challenge might not be abroad in difficult territory. It might be a physical challenge that seems impossible to achieve – for example completing the London Marathon when you’ve never broken out of walk. Or achieving the Three Peaks Challenge when you have never left Lincolnshire.
In 2008 we transformed a blind non-runner, into a super-athlete with the help of the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland. Dave Heeley ran seven marathons, in seven days (consecutively) on seven continents. And still talks about it…
We are partners with high performance medics who are used to preparing individuals and teams for undertakings which require a high level and specific types of fitness. During the challenge we also employ specialist paramedics, who specifically provide emergency treatment and care in difficult, challenging or extreme environments.
Wilderness Medical Support
Would you have thought that Wilderness Medical Support starts at home? We would…you need to eat for altitude, latitude, temperature and prepare physically for a challenge – or you will need EMERGENCY Wilderness Medical Support.
You also may need to think about vaccinations and immunisation, and your previous medical history will need to be screened. A full medical examination may be necessary to determine outset fitness and set a final fitness level.
We prepare beforehand, and then provide the resources in the back-country, or on the streets, or wherever you feel your wilderness to be. We can provide an experienced medical officer to accompany your challenge as medical planning should never be seen as an incidental, or after-thought.
Risk Assessment and Risk Management
There are calculations and formulas associated with risk, and that will apply to your challenge. What is the probability that a hazard could occur – do you even know what the hazards are and if not, how would you find out what they are? Do you accept a certain amount of risk – had you even thought about the risks? Do they matter or are they inconsequential (we’d go for the former..!).
Many people considering a challenge have no idea what the risks are. It’s only fair that you know about what might happen and what can be done to avoid it. Don’t get us wrong, the risks might not be life-threatening, but they could compromise your challenge, and once you’ve spent time, effort and money preparing, you really don’t want it to go wrong.
We provide a detailed, in-depth risk assessment for your challenge and can talk you through risk solutions and degrees of risk. We also provide solutions to identified risks (so don’t worry too much!).
Troubleshooting
Nobody panic!
Trouble shooting requires a calm head, and a processed approach to what kind of trouble we’re in. Often the need for trouble-shooting happens because of a lack of planning – however we’re not all perfect. The ‘trouble’ generally tends to be symptomatic of a particular cause, and not a random happening.
We are experts at understanding why a ‘happening’ (often in a complex situation) occurs. When we know why something has occurred, we can swiftly provide a solution.
It might be a small logistical hitch, or a medical issue – but there’s always a solution and we find it in a timely, calm manner.
