Race Timing/ Championchip Timing provided by www.smartiming.co.uk
- The chip must be worn around your ankle, if it’s not worn you won’t get a time.
- Ware the chip around your left ankle so that the strap cannot catch the chain rings on your bike
- Do not wear the chip on top of your wetsuit-
- If in a Relay Team, your timing chip is your baton. Your swimmer must wear it around the ankle first then hand it to your cyclist who must attach it to their ankle before moving onto the bike. Follow the same procedure cyclist to runner in transition: the bike must be racked before handover.
- Chip must be worn around your ankle in order to record a time as you cross the mat.
- Please place timing chip in the bin provided as soon as you cross the finish line.
.
Parking/ There are several National Park car parks around the Start/Finish area at The Glebe…

Safety First/ We aim to provide a safe and fun environment for everyone to enjoy the challenge of triathlon. If for any reason you experience difficulties while taking part in our event, slow down and follow the route to the nearest marshal or turn around and head back to the last marshals you passed and they will assist you.
- Almost all marshals on route are first aidqualified or higher.
- A First Aid tent will be positioned by transition.
- A mobile Paramedic will follow behind the last cyclist and sweep the route.
- There will also be a broom wagon sweeping the route behind the last cyclist to collect anyone in difficulties or with a mechanical issue.
- The 1,500m swim will begin with a deep water start. This is to allow everyone to acclimatise to the water temperature.
- Entry and exit for the swim will be be a heavy duty rubber roadway as well as rubber matting for 2012 .
- The swim hat provided must be worn to enable marshals to see you in the water.
- Wetsuits must be worn for the swim if the water temperature is 18°C or below.
- Hire wetsuits from our online retail partner www.b2psports.com – PHONE: 01753-857180
- A limited number of Zone3 wetsuits are available for hire from Windermere Canoe & Kayak.
- If you are new to open water swimming a wetsuit will provide you with increased buoyancy and make your swim more comfortable regardless of the temperature.
- If you experience difficulty while in the water either swim to your nearest canoe marshal for help, or roll onto your back and raise an arm in the air. A canoe marshal will approach so you can hold onto their boat. The marshal will assess if you need a quick break or need rescued. The canoe marshal will make contact with one of the fast rescue boats by radio to transport you to the shore, where our First Aid services will take over.
- Do not touch your bike in transition until your helmed is securely fastened.
- Helmets must be worn at all times wile on the cycle route.
- The roads are open to all traffic and the Highway Code must be followed at all times.
- Caution when descending and cornering on the narrow Lakeland roads.
- Lakeland roads suffer each winter with new potholes. Despite our best efforts working with Cumbria Highways to ensure they are all patched, the surface can still be rough in areas.
- A road bike is more suitable for the route then a tri bike.
- Stay in the left lane at all times
- Caution at the Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge were there is a narrow bridge. It is wide enough for 2 vehicles to pass but most feel it is a single lane.
- A Draft Buster Marshal will be on the roads throughout the cycle.
- Caution following from transition out onto the footpath trail leading along the lake shore to Glebe road.
- Follow the race signage out onto Rectory Road and around the trails of the Glebe in Bowness-on-Windermere.
- Caution at the two road crossings and run inside the coned lane.
- The trails and roads will be open to the public during the race, be courteous to the public and other runners alike.
- There are two swing gates on the run route unless there are sheep in the area, then there will be 3 swing gates.
- Collect a wrist band each time you pass transition as a lap marker for the five lap run.
- When you have collected 4 bands it is time to finish at the end of the 5th lap
